Connecting Through Service
In a nutshell, ReachOut is a series of volunteering & outreach activities designed to engage both Engineers Without Borders, University of Delaware Chapter members and the surrounding community. Though volunteering in the ReachOut program, EWB-UD members bond as they develop a sense of community with their fellow members. For the groups we partner with, the volunteerism done by EWB-UD members though ReachOut provides support to greater Newark & Wilmington communities. A few of the organizations we have volunteered with include the Delaware Nature Society, the Food Bank of Delaware, the Delaware State Park Service, the City of Newark, and the Sunday Breakfast Mission. Our program currently consists of a few volunteering events throughout the semester, and a large ‘day of service’ in the fall. In this way ReachOut has a local focus on service, complementing the global attitude of our international engineering projects. This addition of local service connects the EWB-UD community to the surrounding areas, and helps our members grow closer, with a greater appreciation of local service.
