Underneath the luscious green is… mud

Underneath the luscious green is… mud

Hello to anyone reading this!

Natalie here. I cannot believe I get to be in the Philippines again and see this amazing place and family. With every building and face I see my memory comes back and it was like I never left.

Today was the teams first full day in Inabanga and I am so happy with what we have accomplished. We started out with the most important meal of the day and found out that Filipino coffee is weaker than American coffee, so naturally we drank more of it.

We then met with our contacts from Green Empowerment and were finally able to put faces to names. All of us went to Ubujan to meet up with the community where we had a long discussion on how to conduct our well yield test. Christmas decorations were still up and houses had beautiful hanging stars made of plastic bottles.

The team then took a break for lunch where my grandmother served another feast and the GE team joined. Grandma tempted us to take a siesta but we knew we had to keep going with our day.

We headed back to the community to confirm where we want our communal tap stands to be. We walked to the well and reservoir and measured the distances and took down the GPS points from each tap stand from the reservoir to make sure we could go back to the exact places when we go to implement. There was a little drizzle but we were able to dodge any heavy downpours. We went back to the Barangay Hall and discussed our plans for tomorrow (see tomorrows blog for the juicy details).

Got some sun, sweat out lunch, and accomplished what we needed for the project… all in a day’s work.

See you soon,

Natalie Muneses
