“He who wants to jump high must take a long run.”

Ernesto, the Health and Nutrition Coordinator for Villages in Partnership, shared a quote from a Danish Proverb at one of our meetings today with our two partner communities.

“He who wants to jump high must take a long run.”

The purpose of these meetings was to connect the EWB UD team to the Village Implementation Committees and the Water Committees of Liti and Nkagula. Through our conversations with committee members we were able to better understand each of our partner communities and began to plan for the upcoming implementation trip in 2020.

The main obstacle for implementation that was discussed was the 5% monetary contribution that the communities must raise. When the UD team returns to the United States to begin fundraising and preparing for our return next August, the work does not stop in Malawi. Community members will collect donations from local families and save up funds, and may consider hosting events to reach their goal. It is the collective efforts of community members, Villages in Partnership, Engineers Without Borders, and the University of Delaware that will allow our project to be successful.

We look forward to signing partnership agreements with Liti and Nkagula on Monday!

Zikomo to our friends in Malawi.
