Dancing into Mphero

Dancing into Mphero

Mphero village was literally everything and more I could have hoped for over the past 2 years as I worked on this project. I worked so hard and cared so much for these people who I only ever imagined. Today I saw that the Mphero villagers were worth every second of my stress and time and caring. They are so welcoming, kind, and hardworking. My first experience in Mphero today has inspired me to work hard these next few weeks to bring them clean water.

Meredith, Bill, and I started our day in Mphero village and met with the village chief and leaders of the water committee and village implementation committee. We were warmly welcomed and discussed important aspects of the project before we begin drilling tomorrow. Community members then lead us around the community to different water sources used for washing and irrigation. After our adventure, Meredith and I were invited to cook lunch (…well at least try to) with the women in Mphero.

Emma, Rachel, and Curt spent the morning with Liz, from Villages in Partnership learning about irrigation practices in the region. It was so exciting for the team to learn more about the different practices and technologies to keep in mind for future projects.

Our afternoon was filled with singing and dancing at the Bible study fundraiser hosted to raise money for Mphero village’s required 5% cash contribution to the project. Emma had a lot of fans as she danced her heart out with the villagers! The energy of the villagers was so contagious and energized the team even after a long day.

We ended our day in the best possible way, dancing with our new friends….. and taking our first hot showers of the trip. I cant wait to begin drilling tomorrow and see all of what we have worked for come together and bring Mphero water.

Tionana Mawa,

Megan
